How to Keep a Skin Fade Sharp Through a New York Week
22 April 20260 views

The perfect fade starts with a conversation. Before any clipper touches the head we talk about bone structure, hair density, and what you actually do all day. A fade on a Wall Street trader looks different from one on a chef in a hot kitchen.
The cut itself
We work from a 0.5 up to a number 3, blending in half-guard increments. The key isn't the numbers, it's the transitions. Good fades disappear between steps.
What to do at home
- Book the follow-up before you leave. Two to three weeks is the window. A tight fade grows out faster than a longer cut, so plan for it.
- Lightweight tonic, not heavy pomade, around the temples. Heavy product collects in short hair and breaks the blend.
- Brush dry, never wet. Wet brushing lifts the cuticle and blurs the line.
- Hat and hood discipline. A wet New York commute tempts you into a hood, but hat-line creases are the fastest way to ruin a $45 cut.
Come back every three weeks for a clean-up. The cut will tell you when it's ready.
